about audio transcription
The types of audio files used in audio transcription vary between digital and non-digital. The preferred file format for speedy and efficient audio transcription is DSS. To create a DSS file the sender needs to record using a digital recorder such as Olympus as these files can be played back using a foot pedal. Otherwise, recordings can be produced in mp3 format, but playback cannot be controlled by a foot pedal. If you prefer the old-fashioned method then we accept both Mini and Maxi cassette tapes.
There are various approaches to audio transcription. If the dictation is clear then verbatim transcription is very fast and can be done more or less at the speed of typing (i.e. 70 wpm). On that basis the average file of 10 minutes should take no more than 30 minutes to transcribe. If the audio file is of a conversation between several people in a room, for example, it will take longer to decipher and to work out what is being said, and it can take a lot longer to transcribe - in which case the recording will need to be heard before giving an estimate of the time needed to transcribe it.
